Designed for Installing Juniper Network RoutersHow to single handedly install a Juniper Networks PTX5000. I think this may qualify me for being a bit of a Geek? What better way to spend a Friday evening and perfect router installations than with our very own PTX5000 chassis and our latest Chassis Lift & Slide System (CLASS™) But hey, practice makes perfect and if you want to be good at what you do it takes some dedication and a few late nights!! Half of my 20 years in business as a transport company has been in and out of data centres mainly for Juniper Networks and their end users. I soon realised that in an ever increasingly competitive transport market place a simple delivery was just not going to be good enough. There had to be more and it was back in 2006 that saw the first opportunity to work alongside client's network engineers and then I had to figure out the logistics of getting these heavy awkward routers from the kerbside and in to the racks. This has seen the acquisition of a vast amount of manual handling equipment over the years to overcome any obstacles along way.
Looking back at some of the early photos I employed some rather unorthodox ways of racking up equipment and I now often find myself saying, "did I really do it like that!", but this has been an important part of the learning curve. However nearly 10 years on and a desire to succeed and provide a professional first class service I am pleased to have taken delivery of the 3rd version of Secure Transportation's bespoke Chassis Lift & Slide System (CLASS™). Once again bringing together a bunch of our trusty suppliers to create a great piece of kit. The Chassis Lift & Slide System (CLASS™) has evolved over the years, but the simple concept has remained the same. Lift and position a heavy chassis at the exact rack mount position required and slide it in over ball bearing beams with little or no effort. Now a 400 kg fully populated chassis need only a couple of people on site to install, reducing labour costs and improving efficiency . Key Features
This newer version has meant It reduces the amount of equipment needed on site by half. This is due to a 1u cross member for the back of the rack to support the aluminium ball bearing fed beams as opposed to an identical lift as in the previous 2 versions. The lift range is from 16 cm to 170 cm, this is about 1u - 40u and has a lift capacity of 400 kg in weight. The last 2 versions of our Chassis Lift & Slide System (CLASS™) both were tested and certificated under the Lifting Operations and Lifting Equipment Regulations 1998 (LOLER). Having spent a Friday night at what the wife calls "playing installations" (and she thinks I am a little sad) I am satisfied that what I have designed and had manufactured does what it says on the tin.......... Next week is certification time! Take a look at our website and see some of our most recent projects by clicking here Below some photos showing the basic R&D process over the years
